Hi all! I hope you're doing well.
My maternal grandmother, Fern, would've turned 75 yesterday. She was born April 10, 1946.
Sadly, she died in 2008 of liver disease when I was 9 years old. I intend to donate to the Liver Foundation.
I also donated through the obituary website to the Canadian Institute of Forestry. I paid 130 bucks for them to plant three (3) trees in my grandmother's name.
I think it's beautiful that even though she isn't breathing anymore, she will provide oxygen for many, many years to come. Her soul will live on through those branches and leaves. I hope they'll still be there, blowing in the breeze even after I'm gone.
Her name is Fern which makes it super cool, too. Now she's a tree -- three of them! They're set to be planted soon, and I got a certificate for them.
Anyway, I wrote a poem for her and posted it on social media yesterday. I forgot to put it here, so I'm doing it now. I made the background image myself using Canva. I hope you enjoy!
I wish more than anything that I could show her my books and this poem:
May she rest in peace and know we miss her. She will not be forgotten. I hope she would be proud of the woman I have become. Happy Birthday, Nanny!
Thanks for reading!
Dana
